Top 5 Charity 2.0 Websites
Here are my top 5 favorite charity and donation websites, styled in the Web 2.0 theme:
#5 - Idea List
An extensive directory of non-profit and volunteering resources and organizations. This funky site allows you to post jobs, volunteer opportunities, internships, events, programs, resources, and campaigns. Although it’s more of a social networking site, it does encourage people to promote good in the world, so for that we put it in 5th place.
#4 - British Heart Foundation
The British Heart Foundation is a charity organisation in the United Kingdom that sponsors research aimed to prevent heart diseases in humans. It’s slick red interface is nicely designed and easy to navigate, which puts it at number 4 in our list.
#3 - Justgiving
Justgiving allows you to create your own online fundraising page for any event or occasion. You can collect and track donations online. Since their launch in 2001, 2,500 member charities have collected more than £130 million through Justgiving. It seems like a great idea, so we put it in 3rd place.
#2 - Robinhood Fund
The Robinhood Fund is committed to fulfilling as many everyday wishes for as many everyday people as possible. The site is setup so that anyone can submit a wish, promote it to the world, and have their “dreams fulfilled through the wisdom of crowds”. A similar concept to Justgiving, people can have donations sent to them online, but for more personal things such as losing a loved one. This makes an excellent number 2, but here comes the winner…
#1 - ChipIn
ChipIn’s mission is to make it easy to collect money. Users can organize group payments and fundraisers in a quick, easy, and secure way. They also make it simple for organizers to publicize their ChipIns, by providing powerful fundraising widgets that can be embedded in social media. With a great design (I love the logo) and very Web 2.0 styled, ChipIn is the winner!

I actually think this Robinhood Fund makes a better site than Chip In (for first place). My reason…the democratic process in which the money gets distributed.
This list is great though cause it just goes to show you that there are good things happening with the global community. Not just a bunch of twits updating each other (twitter.com).
[...] Hardly can keep my head up, but must stay awake until tonight. Kev’s Chipin design was just selected as the top nonprofit site design. Lots of interesting conversations that will definitely shape the future of Chipin. More [...]
Justgiving has a sister company in the US called Firstgiving. Also another important and rather exciting feature used by both companies is their ability to send/transfer money directly to the non-profit.

My site is also a donation site specifically designed for college students and graduates who have incurred substantial student loan debt. It has two parts: 1) students/graduates can sign-up, set-up a PayPal account, blog, send and receive email, and promote themselves on other sites; 2) fundraising is the second part– there is a general fund and once it reaches $5,000 a committee of three with choose a student to receive the $5,000.
While the site has been launched and all parts working, I have some updates to make with my web designer.
It is the only site dedicated to students/graduates and their student loan debt.
Thanks,
Kerry
